Unbelief is the Thief.

If I asked you to close your eyes to get this analogy home, we’d have a challenge. For this, keep your eyes on the sentences but your minds open. Imagine a billionaire hands you an empty check and tells you to fill whatever amount and it will be yours when he signs it. There are many ways this scenario can go; some would pounce on that cheque, adding zeros all the way to the back. A couple of tears here and there. I’m here to talk to those who would think it’s a scam. As a Christian, let’s dissect this:

Confidence plummets.

Let’s look at this scenario pragmatically. Considering this result, the minute the billionaire senses hesitation, there will be disappointment. You can imagine now how God feels when He sees us hesitating in prayer and actions when He has written so many promises for us in the Bible. Harboring doubt costs us a vital part in our walk with God. The whole concept of this relationship is walking by faith and not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7) therefore if there is no step towards that direction, everything is already at stake. It is alright to stare at the facts but do not forget that you are a child of God standing on the victory of Christ.

Jesus said to him, “Thomas, because you have seen Me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

John 20:29

Remember Sarah, wife of Abraham, and Thomas the disciple? They were both staring at the facts, however, God had something else planned. Let us be encouraged to hold on to the promises of God. Arise! Guard your faith because the Lord is always working on something.

Test Time??

In Matthew 14 towards the end, Jesus was spotted walking on water. Peter decides to take a leap of faith and asks Christ, that if He is the one, to command him to walk towards Him. Kudos if you are with me so far 🙂 Of course, Jesus calls him over and Peter walks on the water. I love this scenario because Peter allowed us to see what it’s like to walk in commands and not faith. In other words, Peter was riding on the fact he was called over. He starts to stink when he gets distracted and Christ comes to help and says, ” O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

What does this tell us? As much as we may have the word at the ready, if we do not believe then we cannot go anywhere. Peter teaches us a valuable lesson: We have a part to play in our Christian walk with God. It’s not enough to hold the Bible, we must read, meditate, pray and declare the word each time the sun rises.

But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.

James 1:6-8

Results.

The last and final blow that unbelief does to our walk is we lose the blessings of God. The bible says that we go to God believing what we are praying for, He’s already done it and it’s ours. The timing of the same will also be at His timing but that doesn’t mean we should cancel the whole thing altogether. In Nazareth, the people in the synagogue got used to Jesus. After all, He was the son of the local carpenter. The Bible says that Christ did not do many miracles because of their unbelief. They lost so much that day. Similarly, we have geniuses in our homes, young minds, and talented friends in our communities. Let us support one another and refuse to judge at face value and see the worth inside just as God does. When we judge, we miss the blessing, an answer that God has prepared, it could be anything.

In closing, I urge us to be encouraged and have faith in the promises of God. Pray the word and believe the report of the Lord. In a bleak time as this, when war, pandemic, and economic crisis is the order of the day, let us choose to hold fast to the promises of God. Be blessed 🙂
